Cambridge Cougars V Huntingdon (peterborough Premier)
Huntingdon faced a tough road trip to league leaders Cougars to see out 2005.
Huntingdon came out in the first quarter looking lacklustre and low on confidence, turning in their worst quarter of basketball this season by far, with the score 33-7 at the end of the period, and the game more or less over already. As Cougars took their foot off the pedal and Hawks stepped up a little bit, the rest of the game was a much tighter affair, with Cougars taking the 2nd quarter 20-17, giving them a 53-24 halftime lead.
Hawks improved some more in the second half, taking the period 22-21! But with the Cougars starters now rarely leaving the bench, they closed out the game easily, taking the fourth quarter 28-24, making the final score 102-70.
Taking away the 1st quarter, Hawks only went down 69-63, showing they can compete at this level, but next time will have to try and keep the game close for as long as possible.
Steve Claringbould top scored for Hawks with 30 points, with Jon Hipple and Matt Parsons the only other Hawks in double figures with 13 and 11 respectively.
