Wisbech Vs Huntingdon (Peterborough Premier)

The Hawks winning streak continues after a tough game they defeated the Wisbech Wildcats 82 -74.

The Hawks entered the game as the favourites but they were missing 2 of their starting five and Wisbech had their strongest squad of the season. The first quarter went well for the Hawks with Ryan Mills scoring 11 of his season high 19 in it. The quarter ended 23 – 17.

The second quarter became a physical game and with the Hawks starting five working hard at both ends of the court it saw them enter the break with a lead of 40 -33.

The third quarter saw Wisbech make a strong run and with the Hawks only having a few bench players to fall back onto and Wisbech having a full bench it looked as if the first half run may have taken too much out of them and the third quarter ended 55 – 55.

The fourth quarter saw a determined Hawks team step onto the court and even though Wisbech initially took the lead they showed their experience and composure as they soon took the lead back. The game soon turned ugly with the combination of some poor calls by the referees and Wisbech getting frustrated it saw them revert back to their physical play which lead to 2 of their big men getting fouled out. That was the turning point of the game and with Wisbech having no height on the inside the Hawks controlled the last 5 minutes and even though the score didn’t reflect it the won comfortably.

Top scorers for the Hawks were Matt Parsons 20, Ryan Mills 19, Michael Barclay 17, Dave Hayes 12, Jon Hipple 11.
