Huntingdon Vs Cambridge (Peterborough Premier)

The Huntingdon Hawks successfully defeated the Cambridge Cougars 94 - 76to secure second place in the league.

The Hawks knew that with only 2 games left in the season they needed to defeat the Cougars to move up to second place in the division and things looked positive when the Cougars only turned up with 5 players. Knowing that they had a very good chance to win the game the Hawks could not afford to relax or underestimate their opposition as they were still a very strong team. Steve Claringbould set the tone by hitting three 3 pointers in the first quarter and giving the Hawks a 27 -20 lead.

The second quarter saw the Hawks play some of their best ball of the season and their offense was running with great efficiency but unfortunately a few defensive mistakes allowed the cougars to get some easy boards and convert them into baskets. The half ended with the Hawks up 50 – 42.

The Hawks entered the second half knowing that they would have to do a better job controlling the boards which thankfully they did but a few easy turnovers allowed the Cougars to keep the score close. The Hawks managed to run the offense with some great success which allowed them to end the third quarter up 72 – 62.

The fourth quarter saw the Hawks play some outstanding ball at both ends of the court. With the Cougars players becoming tired the Hawks managed to control the rebounds and push the ball up the court creating some easy baskets. Chris banks had one of his best offense games as the Cougars seemed unable to defend him inside and the Hawks ran away with the game in the final quarter winning 94 – 76.

Steve Claringbould top scored with 27, Chris Banks had 24, Matt Parsons had 16 and Jon Hipple had 13.
